A Proud Moment for India as Founder and Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Balvir S. Tomar Claims International Presidency of World Health Summit

The exciting news is making waves in the education and healthcare sectors of India as Prof. (Dr.) Balvir S. Tomar, the Founder of NIMS University Rajasthan, takes on the role of International President at the upcoming World Health Summit. This prestigious appointment not only acknowledges Prof. Tomar’s exceptional leadership and contributions but also stands as a enormous achievement for NIMS University and the entire country.

What makes this announcement even more historic is that Prof. Tomar is the first Indian to represent the World Health Summit as its President at a Global Summit. Joining the league of chief patrons such as Olaf Scholz- Chancellor of Germany, Emmanuel Macron- President of France, and Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus- Director-General of the World Health Organization, Prof. Tomar is set to lead the summit on a global stage.

The World Health Summit serves as the International Forum for Global Health, linking together politics, science, and the private sector to shape a healthier future. Scheduled for October 13 to 15, 2024, in Berlin, Germany, the World Health Summit will witness NIMS University’s active participation as it has also secured membership in the M8 Alliance, a group of international health universities organizing the event annually.

In recent global accolades, India altogether along with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya received praise for their comprehensive strategy in managing COVID-19 and the successful “Vaccine Maitri” initiative.

Prof. Tomar conveyed his joy regarding India being chosen as the host country for the World Health Summit 2025, shedding light on the nation’s proficiency in various fields such as knowledge, science, and development. He also addressed that this selection is not only a source of immense pride but also carries major responsibility.

Hand in hand with Vision@2047, Prof. Tomar pointed out India’s commitment to sustainable development and dealing with climate change. He outlined plans to boost self-reliance in defense and space sectors, elevate India’s global standing, enhance renewable energy capabilities, and decrease carbon emissions.

In 2023, NIMS University Rajasthan secured a place in the executive body of the ‘World Health Summit – M8 Alliance, joining just 31 medical centres and institutions worldwide with membership in the M8 Alliance. Particularly, the “Inter Academy Partnership” includes the National Medicine Academies of over 100 countries.
